Circus Maximus (2018)

The primary focus of the project was to explore the historic relationship between animals and people through art and performance. Circus Maximus translates into the greatest circus, which ironically questions the waning reality of the circus’ performative grandeur. The Latin expression directly references its Roman origins, reinforced in the series by a predominantly red palette which serves as a thematic and aesthetic conduit. Symbolically the colour as well as the animals hint primal motifs, including dominance and aggression. This project is meant to be both interrogative and mythical, in which the visual elements meet emotion and folklore.
